Floors account for a significant portion of heat loss in poorly insulated homes, yet they are often overlooked during renovations. In 2026, grants are available to cover part of the cost, but they vary greatly by region, and two of them have changed their rules this year.

This is the first question, and the answer depends on the region.
Everywhere, it is insulation installed under the screed that qualifies for the grant: the layer of sprayed PUR, EPS mortar, or rigid panels must meet the required minimum thermal resistance.
In Flanders, the "vloer" category of Mijn VerbouwPremie goes further: it also covers the installation of the screed itself with fiber reinforcement, in addition to the insulation. This is a nuance that changes the total grant amount and one that many homeowners overlook. Please confirm on a case-by-case basis via the official portal.

Since March 1, 2026, the grant for floor insulation is reserved for income categories 3 and 4, meaning the lowest-income households. Categories 1 and 2, which correspond to higher incomes, are no longer eligible for insulation, facade, or window frame grants.
The official simulator on vlaanderen.be allows you to determine your category based on your reference income.
For eligible categories, the grant covers up to 50% of the invoice, capped at €1,500.
Example: for an invoice of €3,000 excluding VAT in category 4, the premium amounts to €1,500, which is the maximum limit.
The Mijn EPC-labelpremie, which rewarded an improvement in energy label after renovation, was discontinued on July 1, 2026. It can no longer be requested.
The transitional regime for Housing Premiums, in effect since February 14, 2025, ends on September 30, 2026. A new comprehensive regime will come into effect on October 1.
One point is often misunderstood and it is crucial: by this date, the file must be complete, including the final invoice. This means that the work must be completed and invoiced, not just ordered. A project scheduled for October will not qualify for this scheme.
The grant is calculated by multiplying a base amount by a coefficient linked to your income. For thermal floor insulation, the base is €22/m².
Contrary to popular belief, R1 corresponds to the lowest income bracket and benefits from the highest coefficient:
However, these amounts are capped at a percentage of the total invoice including VAT : 70% for categories R1 and R2, and 50% for R3 and R4. This cap determines the actual amount paid out in most cases.
Applications are submitted via the SPW portal. As the audit process takes several weeks, a project not yet audited by August 2026 is unlikely to be completed under the current scheme.

The cap applies here, not the per-square-meter calculation. For smaller areas, the opposite occurs, and the per-square-meter amount limits the grant.
Renolution grants remain suspended in 2026. No applications can be submitted for work with a final invoice dated 2025 or 2026, and the deadline for 2024 invoices has also passed.
Suspended does not mean cancelled: the scale theoretically remains the reference point while awaiting a new framework. However, no payments are currently being made.
Practical advice: keep all your invoices. If a program is reactivated retroactively, having a complete file will save you time.
Regardless of your region, if your home is over 10 years old, you qualify for a reduced 6% VAT rate on insulation work, including under-screed insulation and the installation of the screed. The contractor applies this directly to the invoice, with no action required on your part.
On a €5,000 invoice, the savings compared to the 21% VAT rate amount to approximately €750. This is often the most significant benefit in absolute terms, and the only one that requires no paperwork.
In Flanders, the grant still exists but is now targeted: check your category before planning your budget. In Wallonia, the current scheme ends on September 30, 2026, and requires a complete application, including invoiced work. In Brussels, the 6% VAT rate and the ECORENO loan are the only active incentives.
In all three regions, the R-value of the insulation determines eligibility. This is a technical parameter that must be decided at the quote stage, not afterwards: insulation installed below the required threshold cannot be made eligible retroactively.
